JOAN LACOMBA. RETROSPECTIVE
From 27th January to 30th March
Joan Lacomba (Palma, 1934-2022) has been a clear example of a multidisciplinary artist. He practiced drawing, painting, sculpture, engraving, installations, performances; he directed plays; he designed sets and did lighting studies.
Lacomba's work and career have been recognized on different occasions: with the Francesc de Borja Moll award from the Government, the Emili Darder award from the Obra Cultural Balear, the Ramon Llull award from the Government, the award from the II Gala of the Arts Escénicas from the Consell de Mallorca and the Fra Miquel Gual award from the Obra Cultural Balear of Inca. He has also been awarded in several painting and drawing competitions.
The extensive pictorial production of this artist ranges from the initial works focused on urban landscapes, portraits or minimalist still lives, to the most consolidated and mature stage. In his work you can recognize figurative features, gestural abstraction or surrealism.
He exhibited in Madrid, Barcelona, Ponferrada, Ávila, Oviedo, Avilés, San Francisco (California) and in numerous places in Mallorca and Menorca. His work is in places as varied as the National Library (Madrid), the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Managua Museum, the sa Pobla Art Museum, the Barcelona Museum of Erotics and the local councils of Calvià and Alaró.
In his sculptural work, we find small pieces made with waste wood and large-format works made with reinforced concrete, among them the Memory against death in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.
