HEROINES IN PUCCINI'S OPERA

 

This year marks the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini. To celebrate this anniversary, the 1830 Academy organizes a lyrical gala dedicated to the works of this composer.

 

The operas' melodic inventiveness and dramatic ability have made Puccini one of the leading opera composers in the history of music. Within his world, women occupy a central and especially tragic place in operatic roles. In most cases they don't end well: Tosca, Mimi, Manon Lescaut, Madama Butterfly, etc.

 

Within this gala, we present some of the most well-known and recognized moments of his operas, performed by the Canarian soprano Raquel Lojendio, one of the most important current sopranos. The conductor will be the Portuguese opera repertoire specialist José Ferreira Lobo.
